I’ve been researching health care industry annual report cover designs. There’s not much out there of any beauty, save for this unused cover by Gavin Potenza. The rest of his portfolio is equally as excellent.
A co-worker just sent me Tractorbeam’s new site design… and I’m in love! Minimalist, modern but far from plain, it features great photography of their beautiful work and a site functionality that does what you’d expect. I love everything about it: Trade Gothic, the grid, the analogous color scheme. Tractorbeam, you had me at hello.
It may sound odd, but, even with experience, starting an assignment as if I know very little, can be the key to solving problems. It means keeping an open mind. It means investigating the wrong place for the right answer. It means asking the dumb question. It means having the courage to be uncool. And, though I understand design’s ability to communicate through style, the goal is always to uncover the truth in a way that is simple, thoughtful and unexpected.
